Fade
In 'Fade,' the thrilling follow-up to 'Wake,' Lisa McMann deepens the mystery and increases the drama of Janie Hannagan's strange abilities. After years of feeling alone in her 'curse,' Janie has found a confidante, friend and lover in her long-time neighbor, Cabel. Cabel, who works for the local police department while attending high school with Janie, secures a job for Janie as the station's replacement for dreamcatcher Mrs. Stubin, who recently passed away. Mrs. Stubin knew more about their abilities than she ever let on to Janie during her lifetime, but after she passed away, she began to share her wisdom with Janie through dreams and old case files. One relic of Mrs. Stubin's particularly intrigues and terrifies Janie: A green spiral notebook that opens with a dire warning, entreating the reader to seriously consider the pain that awaits them in the following pages before they continue reading. Janie, however, is distracted from this enigmatic message from the past, by her new case. There is a sexual predator on the loose at her high school and it's her job to catch him in the act.
Even more exciting than its predecessor, 'Fade' will have the reader on the edge of their seat, worried for Janie and anxious to discover the horrifying message of the green notebook. The danger and the action of this novel begin almost at page one, keeping the reader spellbound through every adrenaline-inducing chapter. 'Fade' is full of mystery ? the contents of the notebook, the nature of Janie's abilities, the reason for Cabel's strange behavior and the identity of the pervert lurking in the seemingly innocuous halls of Fieldridge High. Fade is intense and raises the stakes for both Janie and the reader. McMann's journal-like writing style ensnares the reader and puts them directly into the action. The ending will leave the reader anxious for the third and final installment of Janie's adventure, 'Gone.'
