Eclipse
by Stephenie Meyer
The third novel in the “Twilight” saga is as strong as the first.
While the second book, “New Moon,” was sort of a let down for me after the page turning, edge of your seat, “Twilight,” “Eclipse” brought back all the romance and suspense that was missing from the second novel.
Thank goodness author Stephenie Meyer decided to keep vampire Edward Cullen and his family present in the entire book, as they are what gives the story its irresistible quality. Try as she might, Jacob Black and his gang of werewolves are simply not as interesting as the family of vampires.
“Eclipse” continues to follow Bella Swan and Edward Cullen’s epic romance and all the danger that comes with him being a vampire and her not. This novel takes on a much more mature tone, as it becomes rather dark and violent and is very sexually driven. It is clear in this book that Meyer did not write the series with the intention of young readers getting their hands on it.
Nevertheless, “Eclipse” certainly succeeds in pleasing the saga’s avid fans. With the theatrical version of “New Moon” coming out later this year, there is no escaping the cultural phenomenon that is “Twilight.” “Eclipse” leaves me heavily anticipating the future movies and, of course, the final novel in the series, “Breaking Dawn.”
