A Glorious Day
by Amy Schwartz
Henry lives in a small red brick building in the city and from morning till night his day is full.
Henry lives in a red brick building that also houses one baby, two little girls, three big boys, four little boys, two cats and a bird. This story tells of a typical day for Henry and the others, from morning's breakfast to nighttime, when the moms and dads return from work. Anyone who lives in an apartment building will relate to Henry's life.
The illustrations are attractive, but at times a little cofusing, as the young reader can easily think that the families are all living together in one apartment.
This book is especially useful when introducing children to the concept of city life. They will enjoy noticing the children in the story drawing with chalk on the sidewalk and the dad drinking coffee on the "stoop".
A Glorious Day is best suited for children aged four to seven years old.
