Sleep Fairy, The
Molly and Katie have a hard time going to bed each night. If they are not asking for a drink of water or an extra bedtime story, they are calling mom and dad for another request. Finally, after many frustrating nights, mom and dad read the girls the story of the Sleep Fairy. As the tale goes, she will come to visit you in your sleep and leave a treat under your pillow, if you go to bed without a fuss.
Naturally, the incentive worked and Molly and Katie each went to sleep and woke up to find a special prize.
The illustrations, by Shawn Newlun, are softly muted drawings and magical in style. This is a great book for any child having a hard time settling down at night and parents will love it, too, especially if it works. If going to bed is not an issue for your kids, I'm not sure you'd want to read this book to them; whereby, starting another tradition, similar to the Tooth Fairy, but on a nightly basis.
I read this story to my pre-kindergarten class and when rest time was over a little girl got up and said, "she didn't come." She expected a surprise under her mat at school because she had rested without a fuss. So, beware when reading this book. Again, if bedtime has become a nightly hassle, you need to get The Sleep Fairy, if not, then, let sleeping kids lie.
