R.I.P.- The Complete Book of Death & Dying

by Constance Jones

If you had a question about death, this book is your answer.

Death is something that is inevitable, yet it is probably one of the subjects we know the least about. R.I.P.- The Complete Book of Death & Dying explains everything you have ever wanted to know about death.

The book begins with an account of how death was dealt with, from the days of the Neanderthals to today. There is also an insight to how each major religion regards death. The book then goes into the scientific part of dying- what happens to your body as you die. (Some of the info is a bit graphic, so it may not suit all readers, but it's very informative.) Cremation and proper burial are broken down and analyzed, as well as what happens to the body when nothing is done at all. Near death experiences are looked at, as well as the six simple tests used to see if someone has died. The section entitled, "The Culture of Death" mentions famous deaths, murders, ghost stories and anything else that makes death its own culture.

R.I.P. features an interesting part called "Death's Leading Lights," featuring the celebs of death. The last words of the famous, profiles of the world's worst serial killers, strange deaths and interesting epitaphs, make this chapter a must-read.

The last section of the book is an asset for anyone worrying about what will happen after they or a loved one dies. It shows you how to set up a will, plan a funeral and avoid getting scammed in your time of grief. A pyschological look into the reactions of death in its various forms aim to help anyone who is not sure how to feel and prepares others for what might happen next. A collection of helpful resources are found in the back of the book, with addresses and phone numbers of organizations and agencies that can help you plan a funeral.

R.I.P.- The Complete Book of Death & Dying demystifies death and makes it a little more understandable. If you ever had a question about death, this book will hold the answer.
