Visiting New York City with Kids
by Diane Chernoff-Rosen
Travel hints on how tour NYC with kids and enjoy it.
After reading over 100 books on N.Y.C. and how to tour the Big Apple, it is quite refreshing to find such a unique guide. While making the typical suggestions of what to see, eat and do in N.Y.C., this book utilizes references to various websites for both backup and further reader research.
When the truth is told, Manhattan can be quite difficult to visit with kids. The sounds, smells and stimulations of this borough are enough to have any kid bouncing off the walls. The authors have evidently "been there", because many of their hints appear to be from life experiences, such as, how to design a day to fit a child's temperament. I also have "been there", but I had always avoided several of the activities with kids, due to the "what-ifs of parental responsibility". "What if we have to take a crowded bus or train?" "What if there is no room in the restaurant?" "What if the kids are suddenly too tired to see everything planned?" "What if the kids get sick?" and on and on and on ...
The short and sweet is this: the guide not only gives preparation for a visit, but also gives answers and suggestions on how to make the trip better for everybody. The attractive added factor is the many web sites referred to for more research. While designed for "Visiting New York City with Kids", this book is really an encompassing guide to the city for any visitor. "With Kid's" is only its schtick.
