The Right Questions: Ten Essential Questions to Guide You
by Debbie Ford
Best-selling author Debbie Ford doesn't beat around the bush
Can you judge a book by its cover? In this instance you safely can. The title, The Right Questions: Ten Essential Questions to Guide You to an Extraordinary Life accurately sums up the contents of this petite volume.
Best-selling author Debbie Ford doesn't beat around the bush. She dives right on in and states unequivocally that by asking yourself these ten questions before making any decision you are guaranteed positive results. For instance, a dieter should ask herself before indulging in a hot fudge sundae, "Will this choice bring me long-term fulfillment or will it bring me short-term gratification?" Of course, the answer is short-term gratification at the expense of her long-term weight loss goals. By asking, "Am I standing in my power or am I trying to please another?" a person can better understand why he feels frustrated at the end of the day when he caters to another's wishes and denies his own needs. According to Ford, making these "right decisions" are just that simple.
Smoothly written, somewhat shallow in its approach, The Right Questions is a quick read. Unfortunately, however, it doesn't leave a lasting impression. Anyone who has ever belonged to a good Bible study group or enjoyed a strong mentoring relationship with an emotionally healthy adult (a parent, aunt, close friend, etc.) will have intuited these "right questions" early in life. But for those persons who regrettably were not raised in functional, nurturing homes--or may have forgotten the comforting words of the apostle Paul, "We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him"--and can afford the cover price, The Right Questions may be just the self-help guide they're looking for.
