I am by no means a book snob: if it's good, I'll read it. I don't discriminate based on what books are 'supposed' to be. Science fiction, while not generally my thing, has turned out more than one keeper. I treasure my copies of certain children's stories and I don't see why, although I am no longer technically a teenager, books meant for that market shouldn't be read by one and all. Case in point: Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison.
First of four (so far) young adult novels featuring the confessions of Georgia Nicolson, typical British teenager, AT&FFS is much better written ? and more appealing ? than many of its chick lit counterparts (which, like all genres, has turned out it share of duds). Rennison's book is full of the embarrassing inner workings of a 14-year-old's tortured mind. And unlike so many of her twenty-something-110-pound counterparts, Georgia's misadventures are not only probable given her age, attitude, and environment, they're almost unavoidable.Laugh-out loud funny in parts and complete with British-English to American-English dictionary, Angus, Thongs, & Full-Frontal Snogging definitely goes in the keep pile. And it's got me on a search for the rest of the series. Enjoy!
