A Million Little Pieces
by James Frey
Despite the controversy surrounding this book, it’s still an intense and captivating read.
A Million Little Pieces is a memoir that hooks us from the very first page. A bloody James Frey sits on an airplane unaware of his destination. His front four teeth are missing, he has a hole in his cheek, his nose is broken and his eyes are almost swollen shut.
This is the true story of a man struggling with addiction.
When he gets off the plane, Frey is met by his parents who take him to a drug and alcohol treatment facility with the best success rate in the country.
A Million Little Pieces has come under fire in the recent months, because of a report The Smoking Gun did regarding its authenticity. Frey has admitted to embellishing and/or lying in parts of the book and the newest editions have an added author’s note at the beginning explaining so.
What’s at the heart of the book is still true though. It’s about a man trying to recover from a drug and alcohol addiction. It’s about the place and friends who saved him.
