Zones of Paradise is a wonderfully spiritual book of poems, praising women. Lynn Powell’s vivid images and beautiful verbiage will keep you addicted from cover to cover. The book opens with a poem and a new version of Genesis. The book goes on from poem to poem discussing how women need to be proud of who they are. and that our bodies are glorious and we should never be ashamed. She goes on to praise women who speak their minds and have their own voice. In fact, in this collection Powell even has a poem entitled “In Praise of my Daughter’s Insolence” She challenges the concept of Eve being shameful and uses biblical references to add a mystical quality to her work. This is a wonderful collection of poems for women to read for empowerment.
