Coming Clean

Adrienne Lewis shows the plight of coming to age in her poetry collection, 'Coming Clean.' Lewis expresses how awkward and out of place she felt growing up. She writes about growing up with her sister and loathing her own name. She also talks about being Catholic and there are small threads of that shining through every piece in her mentions of confession, baptism and the guilt of being a sinner.

She talks about things she loved in high school, the boys that were in her life and moments when she realized maybe things weren't how she thought. This collection is full of poems all readers will be able to connect with. I especially recommend this book to young women. All the poems bring about a sense of relief in knowing everyone went through the awkward outsider stages of high school. This is a stellar coming of age collection of poetry.
