Dark Harbor
by Stuart Woods
A surefire hit for Stone Barrington fans
"Dark Harbor" is the latest installment in Stuart Woods’ Stone Barrington series. While not his best novel (that honor must go to "Chiefs"), "Dark Harbor" is certainly an engaging read with the fast-paced action to which Woods fans have become accustomed.
When Stone Barrington – lawyer, retired NYC cop and womanizer extraordinaire – learns his cousin has inexplicably committed suicide after murdering his family, he travels to the village of Dark Harbor, Maine, to settle the estate. After arriving, Stone develops serious doubts regarding this bizarre case and begins his own investigation. Stone uncovers a web of intrigue including a secretive network of former CIA operatives, several gruesome deaths, a kidnapping and a suspicious ex-con from Stone’s past.
A master storyteller, Woods cleverly weaves multiple storylines into an entertaining thriller. This lively read is filled with twists and turns that will please any Woods fan. Although several characters are brought into this book just briefly to provide continuity for the ongoing Stone Barrington saga, "Dark Harbor" is, nonetheless, fresh and enjoyable. I will be the first in line to read the next book in this popular series.
Warning: If you’ve never sampled any of Woods’ books, you may want to start off with "New York Dead," which is the first book in this series. The books carry storylines throughout the series, and Woods has a tendency to divulge plots from earlier works in his later books.
