Anatole and the Cat

Anatole and the Cat, first published in 1957, has been re-issued to coincide with the 50th anniversary of its main character. Anatole is Vice-President in Charge of Cheese Tasting at Duval's cheese factory, but unfortunately, a cat coming in at night is disturbing his work. Anatole is not only a hard working and honest mouse, he is also brave as he attempts to "bell" the cat, so he can be heard when he is lurking about.

The story is a simple one, but the character of Anatole is so endearing that the reader will love hearing about his adventures. The story is based in France and the text is rich in colorful language, as seen in the description of Anatole by his wife and family. "Doucette was so pleased she wept for joy. Paul and Paulette, Claude and Claudette, and George and Georgette all exclaimed proudly, 'Our Papa is so clever that a cheese has been named after him.' Gaston declared....'He is a mouse MAGNIFIQUE!'"

The pencil illustrations by Paul Galdone bring both Anatole and the dangerous cat to life.

This is a timeless book which can be enjoyed by ages 4 to 8.
