A Great And Terrible Beauty

by Libba Bray

Gemma Doyle, a teen with special supernatural powers...

Gemma Doyle is a sixteen year old, who, after her mother dies, goes to live at Spence Academy, a finishing school for girls, in London. She is a lonely girl, who has visions; visions that seem to come true. She also feels guilty and blames herself for her mother’s death, because she saw it in a vision.

At Spence, she befriends three girls; three girls who do not want to be at Spence. These girls, with Gemma’s powers, discover the supernatural world. They visit the realms, where everything is beautiful. They can do whatever they want there. One girl makes it rain, another girl makes her prince appear.

A Great and Terrible Beauty is a book that you will not be able to put down. It’s a magical book, a mythical book, about a girl and her special powers. I really enjoyed reading this book. The companion to this book is called Rebel Angels. If you like those mystical, magical books, or even movies, you will love this book. It sort of reminds me of The Secret Garden, mixed with a little bit of Harry Potter. Definitely a good read.
