Getting Rid of Bradley
by Jennifer Crusie
Light-hearted, fun read!
Suffering from a dye-job gone bad, Nina Savage thinks her day can’t get any worse, but the hits just keep on coming. She gets stood up for her own divorce, her sister decides to change her life for her, and finally a drug dealer tries to mug her. Of course, it turns out the ex-husband was trying to kill her, the drug dealer was a cop trying to save her and her sister – well, her sister is another story entirely. The cop, Zach Warren, decides Lucy needs round the clock protection and moves into her house. While dodging bombs and bullets, Zach finds himself longing for domestic bliss as he starts remodeling Lucy’s Victorian house, adopting stray dogs and learning to cook all the while trying to think of the best way to propose to Lucy.
Although the plot is contrived, the dialogue is laugh out loud funny and the characters are realistically flawed but loveable. After reading Bet Me, I looked up all of Crusie’s earlier works and discovered this gem. Anyone looking for a quick pick-me-up book, need look no further. I still grab this one off of my bookshelves when I’m feeling blue, and I’m always laughing by the end!
