Burglars Can't Be Choosers
by Lawrence Block
This book is told from the bad guy's view.
This book is unlike any book I've read. It's not about a detective, it's not about a sleuth, not even about cops. The story is told from the bad guy's point of view, which I found very interesting.
Bernie is a professional burglar, and is hired to burglarize this guy's place, and steal a blue leather box. Only, when he gets there, there is no box. And then the cops show up, but one of them knows Bernie. These cops are sort of corrupt, in a way, as in they were going to let Bernie leave. But then one of them finds a dead body in the bedroom, and Bernie panics, pushes the cop and runs for it.
He hides out at this guy's place, since he knows the guy is going to be gone for a few months. Bernie is very confused as to who set him up. He is also now a fugitive. He cannot leave the apartment, and there is hardly any food there.
Bernie must prove that he is innocent, while at the same time, stay in hiding. He must also prove who set him up, and who exactly is the dead guy.
