Death in Lacquer Red
by Jeanne M. Dams
A Scottish maid helps to solve a murder, in this first book of the series.
Hilda Johansson is a Scottish maid, working for this family. She is a servant and must answer to the butler. But when Hilda stumbles upon a dead body, she is determined to help solve this murder. She doesn't trust the police, and must go behind the butler's back, and everyone else's.
She fears that if anyone finds out what she is doing, she could lose her job, or worse, get killed herself. She and her guy friend, Patrick, ask around, and find some clues, but not enough. Hilda is dead set on the Judge being corrupt, and therefore the killer. But she must prove this, which is a hard task, as Hilda must also work as a servant and only has a little time meddle.
When another dead body is found, Hilda confides in her friend, Norah, and together they both work to solve this crime.
I enjoyed this book a lot, because I have never read a mystery book about a maid solving crimes before. This particular book is the first one in the series, and I can't wait to read the next one!!
