Nursery Crimes
by Ayelet Waldman
The first book in the series, about a stay at home mom who solves crimes.
Juliet is an ex public defender, and now a stay at home mom, with baby number two on the way. But Juliet is at loose ends and dissatisfied. She misses her work, and is ashamed to admit she doesn't like playing games with her daughter Ruby.
When she and her husband Peter take Ruby for an interview at a prestigious preschool, things get out of hand. First of all, they don't get in; and neither does this other person's kid. When he finds out, he goes ballistic.
Then, that same night the school's founder, Abigail Hathaway, is hit in a hit-and-run accident. But Juliet doesn't think it was an accident. She thinks that it was murder, and that the guy at the preschool interview may have had something to do with it.
So Juliet, being her nosy self, decides to investigate. She seems to have gathered some proof, so she goes to the cops, but then finds out that he has a so called alibi. Then Juliet finds another suspect. She must prove that he/she did it. Meanwhile, she's taking care of her daughter, and is eight months pregnant.
I enjoy these books by Ayelet Waldman because it's different to read about a stay at home mom who solves crimes.
This book is also known as a cozy mystery. In case you don't know what that means...it's a book with PG violence, PG sex, and PG language.
I just discovered them and love them. They have websites listing cozies, so just search for them.
