The Modern Girls' Guide to Life
by Jane Buckinghamg
A terribly useful guide for today’s new woman who wants to make her mark in the exciting and fast paced world of today.
Working 12 – 12: The Modern Girls’ Guide to Practically Everything
With today’s wealth of books available on practically every topic, Jane Buckingham’s The Modern Girl’s Guide to Life stands out as a first-rate guide for every young woman. Buckingham’s guide, which attempts to ease young women making the transition from college student to professional working woman, provides a treasure trove of basic but essential information. With such chapters as “Bond Jane Bond,” “Mod-Girl Etiquette,” and “Savvy Survival Skills” Buckingham’s book explains the need for professionalism in the workplace and how best to maintain this dignity inside and outside of the office. Buckingham’s guide also gently eases the reader, presumably a young woman, into the adult world with helpful, logical and insightful tips.
In the chapter entitled “Savvy Survival Skills” Buckingham explains topics as alien and diverse as opening an IRA to how to best go about purchasing a used car. She writes in earnest, describing the tragic loss of her mother when she was only twenty-two, and how she hopes that “While…your induction into adulthood isn’t this dramatic…there are still some savvy survival skills that every Modern Girl is better off knowing sooner rather than later…having an arsenal of tricks up your sleeve will make you a billion times more confident as you enter into a new, more sophisticated stage of your life.”
Life is a terribly useful guide for today’s new woman who wants to make her mark in the exciting and fast paced world of today. The best thing about this book is how Buckingham genuinely wants to help other young women who are in the same position she once was.
