Wuerffel is expected to make a full recovery from the rare autoimmune disorder
Danny Wuerffel, a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback who played six seasons in the NFL with four different teams, has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder that affects roughly one out of every 100,000 people.
The potentially debilitating disease is believed to have surfaced when his immune system began attacking parts of the nervous system that control movement and sensation, mistaking them for a stomach virus he battled in early June.
