'Sucker Punch' Star Emily Browning Defends the Film's Reviews of Being 'Sexist'

Amongst the reviews that Sucker Punch has garnered since its release, the word “sexist” seems to be the most popular term to describe it.

Australian actress, Emily Browning, who stars in the film as Baby Doll, is coming to the Zack Snyder film’s defense.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that 22-year-old Browning is brushing off comments that the film has erotic undertones and objectifies the cast of mostly women.

The stars of Zack Snyder’s upcoming action-fantasy film, Sucker Punch, were in attendance at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater for last night’s Los Angeles premiere. Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, recording artist Joe Jonas, and Valentine’s Day star Emma Roberts also attended the event.

Emily Browning, Jamie Chung, Abbie Cornish, and Jena Malone took part in a sit-down interview with MTV News to promote the project by discussing their transformation from normal girls to women warriors.

Though The Hunger Games has finally found its lead actress in one of this year’s Academy Award nominated actresses, Jennifer Lawrence, actress Emily Browning has recently opened up about how she also tried out for the role.

Browning is perhaps best known for her role as one of the three children in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events which is also based off of a book series. Browning will also be hitting the big screen again very soon in Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch which is packed full of action, in which Browning’s character is somewhat of a superhero.

According to Entertainment Weekly, there are approximately 30 actresses who are up for the role of the 16-year-old Katniss, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the book series of the same name as the film.

San Diego Comic-Con previewed many exciting movies this past weekend. One movie in particular created quite a buzz. Zach Snyder’s Sucker Punch, which opens in March 2011, has been described by the director as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns.”

Vanessa Hudgens, Emily Browning, Jamie Chung and Jena Malone are just a few of the stars of the film. MTV News caught up with the four stars and talked about the training they did for their extreme action sequences.
