The Message Behind 'Window Seat' Lost in Translation?

Badu's song has attracted attention but not for the meaning.

At the end of Erykah Badu’s video for “Window Seat,” the first single off the album, New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, she explains in a voiceover, that the masses are “quick to assassinate what they do not understand.”

The video was shot guerrilla style in one take in the Dealey Plaza in Texas. The whole video is Ms. Badu singing while stripping her clothing away. It appears that the outrage and the criticism that her video received is proof of the exact message that she was trying to portray with the song.
