In the fall of 2009 San Francisco band Girls released their debut, Album. Tracks served up DIY jangly pop, moody rock songs about what young men know best: girls, crappy relationships, drugs, and feeling out of place. Album is a slice of life, not a happy meal.
It was clear lead singer Christopher Owens, who admittedly wrote many of the songs after a break up, with his bruised and sullen voice that has often been compared to Elvis Costello, had something going on and you didn’t need to dig deep to uncover what it was.
