Sony says the first UltraViolet releases will be ‘The Smurfs’ and ‘Friends With Benefits’

Sony Corporation announced Tuesday that the first releases for the UltraViolet format will be The Smurfs with Neil Patrick Harris and Friends With Benefits with Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

10 Summer blockbuster flops in the past 10 years

Summer has always been the season of blockbuster films, especially in the last ten years. With so many films vying for ticket sales during the summer months, though, there are bound to be some failures.

The films listed below, billed as summer blockbusters, have some of the lowest ratings at the review aggregate website Metacritic within the past ten years. Many also failed to make up their budget, whether domestically or worldwide, contributing to their status as flops.

The reviews may have been lukewarm and, at $118 million, the ticket sales pale in comparison to past superhero juggernauts such as the Spider-Man movies or The Dark Knight , but Warner Bros. isn't ready to make Ryan Reynolds turn in his super-powered ring just yet -- in fact, the company is already planning a Green Lantern sequel.

Film fanatics might want to start popping the popcorn. The Los Angeles Film Festival has a vast lineup with some glamorous screenings and events installed.

After hosting the 2001 Oscars in February, James Franco sets sail to The Los Angeles Film Festival. He will sit down “for a freewheeling discussion of film, poetry and pushing the creative envelope,” according to the festival’s release. The 127 Hours star will also present The Broken Tower, a film he wrote, directed and stars in, about the gay poet Hart Crane.

Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC Comics adaptation of Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan and Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, is one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

The studio debuted four minutes of footage from the much-anticipated superhero film at San Francisco’s WonderCon this past weekend.

While the first trailer was met with a mild reception, the recut footage provides viewers with an extensive glimpse of Reynolds’ portrayal of Jordan that will likely put concerns surrounding the character to rest.
