Police to reopen hiking trail where severed head was found near the Hollywood sign

Earlier this week, it was reported that two hikers found a severed head of a man near the iconic Hollywood sign in Los Angeles. Police had closed off the trail where the head was found to search for more evidence. They eventually found more body parts and have decided to re-open the trail. However, the mystery is far from over.

Music executive John Atterberry dies after being shot during Hollywood shooting

Veteran music industry executive John Atterberry died Monday, days after being randomly shot by a rampaging gunman in Hollywood. The 40-year-old executive worked with Jessica Simpson, the Spice Girls and others.

Spokesman Simi Singer confirmed to The Associated Press that he died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Atterbury was shot in the face and neck while driving his Mercedes-Benz near Vine Street and Sunset Boulevard on Friday during the attack.

Hollywood has lowest box office gross since 2008 as ‘New Year’s Eve’ makes just $13.7 million

New Year’s Eve may have been the winner of the box office this weekend, but no one was celebrating. Hollywood had its worst weekend since September 2008, as the top 20 films only grossed around $74 million, although some reports place it at as much as $78 million. Still, it was the worst weekend this year by far.

New USC study finds that gender inequality still persists in Hollywood

Since the birth of Hollywood, technology has changed and story trends have evolved, but one thing remains constant. Gender inequality remains a problem in Hollywood. USC’s Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism released a new study of the top-100 grossing films of 2009, which included Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Twilight: New Moon and the second Transformers film, showing that there were no more female speaking roles than there were the previous year.
