Following a four-hour standoff at the Discovery Channel Headquarters in Maryland on Wednesday, police snipers have shot and killed the man who officials say walked into the building with a handgun.

The man, James Lee, is a suspected environmental extremist, and was also said to have been wearing metallic canister devices. Lee died after he was taken into custody, and according to reports, the three hostages are safe.
