Paramount confirms ‘Paranormal Activity 4’ for 2012

In a press release that was published Monday, Paramount Pictures announced that they are planning on making and releasing a fourth Paranormal Activity film in 2012.

One of the most famous ghosts that reside in this city is known as Marie Laveau. Marie was one of the first practitioners of voodoo. The horror film could bring in around $35 million

For the third straight October, movie audiences will get to be horrified by a Paranormal Activity film. Paranormal Activity 3 is a prequel and is expected to provide Hollywood with the blockbuster it has been in need of since The Help towards the end of the summer. Meanwhile, the other new releases this week, which includes another The Three Musketeers film and the British comedy Johnny English Reborn, are not expected to do much better than the hold-overs from past weeks.

Apollo 18, directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, is a film about the final expedition to the moon. Apollo 17 was the last documented expedition to the moon by NASA, until never-before-seen footage came to light regarding a secret 18th mission. This film sees two American astronauts on a secret voyage to the moon, a dream come true for them. That is until they realize they are not alone. Something is out there and it's toying with them and their equipment, and pushing these men to their limits both psychically and mentally.

Katie Featherston is best known for playing Katie in the Paranormal Activity films where she plays a woman possessed by a demon.

But Featherston admits she too is too scared to watch the films.

She tells People, "The first time I saw Paranormal 2 was with an audience, and I was terrified," Featherston said. "I can not watch either of the Paranormal films alone."

According to MTV News, Paranormal Activity creators are already planning a sequel, in the wake of the recent success of Paranormal Activity 2 making upwards of $40 million its opening weekend at the box office.

Director Todd Williams tells MTV News that discussions have taken place within the Paranormal Activity crew, however, creator Oren Peli says they have not happened with Paramount yet.

'Paranormal Activity 2' earned $41.5 million this weekend.

Paranormal Activity 2 earned $41.5 million this weekend at the box office, taking the top spot, according to USA Today.

The film, a sequel to 2009's low-budget hit, set the record for the biggest three-day opening for a horror movie, topping Friday the 13th‘s $40.6 million earnings at the box office last year.

The film exceeded expectations by more than $10 million. On Friday, the film racked up $20.1 million, including $6.3 million from Thursday midnight showings.

Paramount's 'Paranormal Activity 2' opened at the top of the box office.

Paranormal Activity 2 took in an estimated $20 million at the box office Friday, including $6.3 million from its midnight screenings, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The R-rated Paramount film, directed by Tod Williams, is estimated to gross upwards of $30 million during opening weekend.

Jackass 3D, another modest budget R-rated film from Paramount, ranked in the No. 2 position, grossing another $7.6 million on Friday. As of Thursday, the film generated upwards of $66 million.

What to Expect with 'Paranormal Activity 2'

Early reviews have been positive about this low-budget horror flick.

Paranormal Activity 2 will use the same amateur style filming and simple fright scene techniques as its predecessor.

The script is written by the same scribes who wrote the first Paranormal Activity, Michael R. Perry and Oren Peli. However, Tod Williams (The Door in the Floor) is the director of the flick.

The storyline centers around a family of four -- husband and wife, a baby boy, and a teenager. However, they're also bringing in a Latin nanny and a dog who can sense supernatural activity, reports ABC.

Beware of 'The River'

Paranormal Activity filmmaker Oren Peli is headed to the small screen, according to Deadline.com. ABC has signed a pilot commitment with the thrill-master to produce The River.
