When Wet Hot American Summer, the kitschy cult comedy about the last day at a Jewish summer camp, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival over ten years ago, the film's multitude of stars were nothing but improv students and writers trying to make it in industry. By now, nearly every actor in the film has a booming career, with hit TV shows, blockbuster movies and trapper keepers full of appointments.

Our Idiot Brother

Our Idiot Brother is a bargain of a film. You don’t get just one film that centers on Paul Rudd’s adult-child stoner, Ned Rockliffe, but three additional films in which Ned causes chaos in sisters’ lives.

Ned is released from prison after serving time for selling a stash of marijuana to a policeman. Ned’s girlfriend, Janet (Kathryn Hahn), kicks him off their farm and keeps his dog, Willie Nelson. He ends up living back at home with his eccentric mother, Illene (Shirley Knight).

After he leaves his mom is when the story breaks itself down.

Worth the Watch: 'Our Idiot Brother'

Oliver Willis

Our Idiot Brother , directed by Jesse Peretz, is about a man called Ned (Paul Rudd) who is what some people describe as a free spirit, but most would describe him as an idiot. After spending a stint in prison for dealing drugs to a uniformed policeman, Ned imposes himself on his three ambitious and motivated sisters. Through his free-spirited and positive take on life, he is able to introduce his sisters to things other than blind career motivation.

Paul Rudd uses ‘Our Idiot Brother’ role to expand repertoire

Paul Rudd has made a name for himself in comedies ranging from Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy to Knocked Up, but his new role in Jesse Peretz’s Our Idiot Brother is an attempt to expand his abilities as an actor.

Rudd calls the role more realistic than some of his other work.

“It's just like life...It's not unrealistic or a cliche. That's one of the things I really liked about this project,” he said, according to The Associated Press.

‘Wet Hot American Summer’ prequel a possibility

The movie that launched the careers of today’s most popular comedians and actors may not be over. Director David Wain recently talked about his desire to do a follow-up project to his cult classic, Wet Hot American Summer.

“The prequel would be the same summer so they would by 20 years old for the part, yeah, but not younger,” he told Jeff Goldsmith on The Q&A Podcast. “So it would be 40-year-olds playing 16-year-olds. And yeah, we’re in the early stages of thinking about that.”

Paul Rudd is an 'Idiot' in his new movie

The trailer for Our Idiot Brother makes the lovable Paul Rudd look like a scraggly haired, pot-smoking -- well, idiot.

The film, slated for release on August 26, stars the seasoned vet of raunchy comedy as a stoner hippie with a penchant for ugly sweaters who inadvertently sells his drug of choice to an undercover cop. This idiotic (pun intended) mishap leads him to jail, where he must be bailed out by his sisters. Of course, more hi-jinks and humorous annoyances are in store for the sisters after they rescue their sweet-but-dumb brother.
