Rescue Me ended its run on FX on Wednesday night, and during its finale party, those who worked on the show honored more than 30 9/11 firefighters.

The cast, crew, and members of the FDNY attended the series finale screening in Manhattan on Wednesday night. While there, one firefighter thanked those who participated in letting the firefighters have a voice. “Thank you for telling our story, never leaving us behind, and believing in us," he said.

Denis Leary and USA are hearing 'Sirens'

Rescue Me may be entering its final season, but television hasn't seen the last of Denis Leary.

The actor has recently signed on to co-write and produce a half-hour comedy pilot for USA Network called Sirens, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The show, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, is about the antics and conflicts of a team of paramedics.

FX sets summer schedule

FX, who has been enjoying recent success, has announced their summer schedule.

Deadline reports FX has green-lighted a new original comedy Wilfred, starring Elijah Wood and Jason Gann, debuting on Thursday, June 23 at 10 PM. A pair of returning series also have dates: Season 2 of Louie will return on June 23 at 10:30 PM, and Rescue Me returns on Tuesday, July 12 at 10 PM.

After seven years, the FX show Rescue Me will end its run. The firefighter drama will intentionally end less than a week before the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, reports Access Hollywood.

On Saturday FX president John Landgraf acknowledged the finale date was intentionally chosen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Denis Leary is in negotiations to join the cast of the forthcoming Spider-Man reboot.

Leary is reportedly in talks to play Emma Stone’s character’s father, police captain George Stacy.

Stone is signed on to play the love interest of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, who will be played by The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield.

Rescue Me star Callie Thorne nabbed a role on the new USA pilot Necessary Roughness, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Thorne, known for playing the off-balance Sheila, scored the lead role on the hour-long show being developed for USA.

Actress Maura Tierney battled cancer last year and is currently doing well. Now, her character on Rescue Me will be facing the disease.
According to TVGuide, Tierney eventually agreed to portray her character as a cancer patient after being approached by the show’s executive producers, Peter Tolan and Denis Leary. This was after she had personally ceased treatment and was given a clean bill of health.
