The original date for the still-untitled film was June 29, 2012. However, scheduling difficulties led to the date change. Abrams reportedly did not want to be rushed into a pre-set release date. His work on the blockbuster Super 8 (2011), led to a delay in officially signing onto the Trek sequel.

George Takei pokes fun at the Kardashians

Actor George Takei, famous for his role as Sulu on Star Trek, made a humorous jab at the Kardashians online.

On his Facebook page, Takei posted a picture made by a fan with the headline “Keeping up with the Cardassians.” Underneath it, he wrote that he would watch that series. The Cardassians are an alien species in Star Trek, although they never appeared in the original series. Takei isn’t the first to compare the reality show family to the alien species due to their similar-sounding names.
