In their first joint press release, Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment announced Monday that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 has passed the $700 million mark and that it should become the top-grossing film in the Twilight franchise.

As the integration of Summit Entertainment into Lionsgate continues after the studio spent $412.5 million to acquire the home of the Twilight franchise, Lionsgate announced early Friday that it has named two top Summit executives to co-chair Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group division.

Last weekend, it was reported that Lionsgate’s deal to takeover Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the Twilight films, was becoming more imminent. The two companies announced Friday afternoon that Lionsgate’s takeover was complete, costing $412.5 million. Shortly after the announcement, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said that it would be possible to continue the Twilight franchise beyond the Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment are reportedly moving closer to a merger, with Lionsgate acquiring the studio best known as the producers of the Twilight films. Reports suggest that the deal could be worth as much as $700 million.
