YouTube, Ridley Scott and Venice Film Festival teaming up for online film festival (Video)

Thursday, YouTube and Prometheus director Ridley Scott announced that they are teaming up with the Venice Film Festival, the world’s oldest, to create a worldwide online festival called Your Film Festival.

According to Entertainment Weekly, YouTube is asking aspiring filmmakers to submit their own 15-minute shorts beginning Feb. 2 until March 31.

Madonna's hatred of fan's gift caught on tape

Pop Queen Madonna was caught on tape expressing her hatred of a bouquet of hydrangeas given to recently by a fan at the Venice Film Festival.

Madonna was at the Film Festival promoting her new movie W.E., which according to the Dailychilli Madonna directed, while she was on stage a fan presented her with a gift of hydrangeas.

According to ABC News, Ben Affleck will be directing and starring in a Boston-based thriller called The Town.

The film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will be the second directorial project Affleck will embark upon; 2007’s Gone Baby Gone marked his first.

Affleck will play a leader of a crew of bank robbers, who falls in love with a woman the crew held hostage at a point in the film.

John Woo awarded Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement

Director John Woo received the Golden Lion award for Lifetime Achievement on Friday, September 3 at the Venice Film Festival.

At the festival, Woo was recognized as “an innovator of the contemporary language of cinema" in addition to introducing extremely stylized action films which helped to renew the genre, reports the Associated Press.

Woo was surprised to receive the award. "I wouldn't say that I have much contributed to film society, even though I made several good films," he said.
