Invite 'The Night Stalker' to your Halloween party

Kolchak - - - The Night Stalker is one of those strange magical movies, an ugly mongrel dog with an odd hard to define charm, crafted from a variety of ill fitting less than reputable parts. It just somehow works as a horror spook film, an excellent choice for Halloween.

'Under the Dome'

Under the Dome is one big book, but that's nothing new for Stephen King. My bet would be that the 40-times-over bestselling horror author prefers longer projects but is limited by the plain and simple fact that not everyone is willing to commit to a thousand-page journey. Not all of the time, anyway. So is this one worth it? The answer is as solid as the dome King has so brilliantly created: yes.

Under the Dome Book Review

"Under the Dome" is a great achievement in character development, social commentary and overall entertainment.

The Bone Factory

Kenyon gives great horror.

Murder, disappearances and madness in the snowbound forest of Quebec.

Joe Thibodeau searched for the missing little girl, following his instincts and the faint trace of tracks to the silent hydro plant and straight into the lair of a maniac.

After a year of being unemployed, David Pierce has been hired to put the Jackson Hydro plant back on schedule. He moves his little family ? Helen and his daughter, Jessie ? to Jackson near St. Boudin in Quebec.

Bad Things

Insidious slow motion avalanche of chills.

John Henderson's life is quiet and ordered. He is a waiter in a restaurant who walks the two miles to and from work every day, drinks a couple of beers and smokes only on the deck outside the beach house where he lives rent-free, walks on the beach every morning and keeps to himself. It's a small, ordered life.

It's a big change from three years before when he and his wife frantically searched for their young son, Scott, only to find him on the jetty that stretched out over Murdo Pond and lose him moments later. Scott shouted, 'Run, Daddy. Run!' pointed and fell over.

Heart-Shaped Box

A macabre-obsessed rock star skeptically buys a haunted suit but finds himself defending his life from a vengeful ghost.

Aging rock star Judas Coyne mostly keeps to himself nowadays on his farm with his young girlfriend and macabre artifacts collection, courtesy of doting fans. When his assistant learns of an online auction for a Sunday suit that's haunted by its former inhabitant, Judas bids on it and wins. The suit arrives and he's surprised when he sees the ghost, but is even more surprised when it tries to make him kill himself.

Although the premise of the novel seems a bit silly, it turns out to be convincingly scary.

All Together Dead

Sookie's

All of Sookie's dealings with vamps and near misses with death in the first six books culminate in a vampire summit that she attends in 'All Together Dead.'

Despite her actual fairy godmother's suggestions, the telepath opts to accompany Louisiana's vamp queen (along with her undead ex, Bill, who she's trying to sever ties with) to notify her when humans deceive her in business dealings.

From Dead to Worse

When Sookie hoped for some normalcy post-vampire summit, she was aiming for regular-people normal, not more-failed assassination-attempts-on-her-life normal.

In the wake of the disastrous vamp summit and picking brains to uncover hate-driven terrorist attacks, Sookie is content working at the bar back in Bon Temps. But of course the emotional fallout of that isn't her only concern now.

Unsurprisingly, Sookie gets pulled into mutually exclusive were and vampire conflicts that have no impact on her, but feels she must take part in for the sake of individuals she loves that will suffer if she doesn't get involved.
