Italian Survival Guide

A crash course for new travelers to Italy. Learn culture and very basic language to help you travel with confidence through a foreign country.

"Italian Survival Guide: The Language and Culture You Need to Travel with Confidence in Italy" is Elizabeth Bingham's second published book, the first book being "German Survival Guide." Bingham's "Italian Survival Guild" intentions are to help the reader learn the basics of travel, language and culture in a little amount of time.

This is not a travel guide for landmarks to see or restaurants to eat at. This is a travel guide for language and culture. Bingham's book is in seven sections, each one on an important topic of traveling.

In a Sunburned Country

The clever account of a life changing trip to the most remote regions of Australia and back.

In a Sunburned Country' is Bill Bryson's humorous account of one astounding trip down under. He takes the reader across this sunburned nation (appropriately labeled as it fields the largest hole in the Earth's o-zone layer), in a travel documentary that is knowledgeable, entertaining and impressive. Bryson has a remarkable aptitude for Australian history. His depth of research and knowledge is presented in a series of clever anecdotes as he experiences the people and culture of this self-proclaimed 'forgotten' nation. The dry humor Bryson employs is witty but not overdone.

City Walks: London

Useful travel guide in a unique format

To really know a city, one has to walk its streets. This is especially true of London, where it seems that every second building has a plaque noting that the likes of Samuel Johnson or Charles Dickens had lived there or that some important event in the city's long history occurred on that site.

City Walks: London-50 Adventures on Foot is the latest in a series that has included similar publications for San Francisco, Paris and New York. City Walks is an interesting concept in that it is not actually a book, but a deck of cards.

Largest U.S. Cities Named after a Food

Are you the type who loves facts about geography?

Okay, the title is a bit odd, but the book is basically one big reference book with the oddest and strangest facts about geography. This isn't the type of book that a person will read from cover to cover; rather it's a volume one can browse for interesting snippets. For example, would you like to know where to move if you're looking to meet a wife? Move to Latvia which is 54.1% female, but remember to avoid Qatar which has only 34.5% female. Or are you the type of person who believes that Americans should only speak American?

Brooklyn: A State of Mind

125 Original Stories from America's most colorful city.

Brooklyn: A State of Mind is not really a travel book with descriptions of tourist sights and accompanying fees and hours. Nor is it a history book that gives a detailed chronological time line of the city's growth, but rather this book is a collection of stories and tales as unique as the borough itself.

I lived in Brooklyn for the first 46 years of my life and the last few years we have lived in a suburb about 25 minutes away.

Grand Canyon National Park

Everything you need for an unforgettable vacation

Travel writer, Shane Christensen, begins his Frommer's guide to the Grand Canyon by reflecting, 'Years ago, upon completing a hike in the Grand Canyon, I stood at the rim gazing, one last time, at the colours below and vowed right then to inform everyone how lucky they were to be alive. My good intentions lasted for only a day, but it was an unforgettable one and, when it was over, I realized that the canyon had moved me the way religion moves fervent believers.' However, it wasn't until he started writing his book about the canyon that he fully understood just why he had been so moved by it.
