The Dangerous Summer's 'War Paint' album review

Artist:
The Dangerous Summer

Hailing from Elliot City, Maryland, The Dangerous Summer is an alternative rock band not afraid to maneuver through the emotional trajectory of a relationship gone wrong on their second full-length release, War Paint. Named after what is widely considered as Hemmingway’s last novel, The Dangerous Summer, is also a story filled with a whole lot of strife. And The Dangerous Summer definitely seems like a band that would become immersed into that kind of thing.

'Prove It' review

Artist:
Divided by Friday

A nice mix of alternative and indie rock, Divided by Friday's EP, Prove It, does just that. An improvement, in my opinion, over their first EP, The Constant, Divided by Friday proves they have the stuff to stick around in the music business.

For anyone who likes Fall Out Boy, you should give Divided by Friday a listen. The lead singers of each band have a similar sound to them, which isn't a bad thing at all.

There For Tomorrow: The Verge (album review)

Artist:
There For Tomorrow
Band's second full length is missing something important.

Orlando band There For Tomorrow deliver all twelve songs on their second full length album with an attractive, emo-tinged earnestness and a strong pop sensibility. The four-piece should be commended for the step they've taken in writing more complex song structures—some of the parts might throw you off for a second upon first listen simply because you're not expecting them, but the tone of the songs is always maintained quite well.

Where The Verge comes up short is in the hook department.

Album Review: 'Chandler Travis Philharmonic Blows!'

Artist:
Chandler Travis Philharmonic
Do you think all philharmonics are classic and traditional? Think again.

The Chandler Travis Philharmonic is a nine piece ensemble of musicians out of Boston. With a name like Philharmonic, it would be easy to assume that they are a sophisticated bunch offering up strictly classic music. Well, think again. CTP’s most recently released album is called Chandler Travis Philharmonic Blows!

Album review: 'Follow the Freedom' by Bohème

Artist:
Bohème
A spectacular upbeat artist on the rise

Bohème, the moniker for the artist previously known as akaCassidy, has released an epic album that will skyrocket her career as a solo artist. Follow the Freedom is an amazingly upbeat album.

Cassidy was the lead singer and songwriter for the band Antigone Rising. She has toured with the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Dave Matthews, and Rob Thomas. In no time at all, I can see her becoming just as popular as the artists she has toured with.

A southern fried treat for the ears

Artist:
Fried Goat
Band creates their own music with only basic Ingredients

The best word to describe the band, Fried Goat’s, sound is organic. Their debut release, Bon Appetit, reminded me of a time when musicians actually played their instruments and singers didn’t rely on autotune.

The band, who hails from Augusta, Georgia, has been classified by critics as either Americana or Blues Rock, but their bio insists that they refused to be categorized by any genre. Bon furthers their stance by featuring different musical styles such as folk on “Another Day,” rock with “Don’t Let It Bring You Down,” and alternative rock with “Henry.”

Counting Crows revisit their breakout album with 'August and Everything After: Live at Town Hall'

Artist:
Counting Crows

The problem with most live albums is that they are, in many cases, simply greatest hits collections with applause and cheering between each track. For this reason, most bands choose to avoid releasing one, or at least hold it off until later in their career when a greatest hits collection seems more appropriate. Even more daring than the traditional live set, however, is recording a live version of your band’s most successful album. It is a very bold move, then, for Counting Crows to have even released August and Everything After: Live at Town Hall.

"When I was Five" by Claire Bowditch Review

One day, I watched the movie According to Greta and heard a fantastic song. I began searching for it online, but instead of the search lasting a couple days at the most, it took me about a month to find it. I heard the song only once and I was hooked, and now I’m hooked on Claire Bowditch, the singer, altogether. She has a fantastic voice that is calming and soothing, and in her song “When I was Five,” mournful.

The Naked Brothers Band grows up

Artist:
Nat and Alex Wolff

Brothers and former Nickelodeon stars Nat and Alex Wolff have released their first album since shedding their Naked Brothers Band name, and it’s surprisingly not that bad.

The Wolff boys have put their Nickelodeon days behind them and have managed to create an album, called Black Sheep, that helps lead them in a more sophisticated direction.

New album 'Ukulele Songs' receives praise

If you know the band Pearl Jam, then you must know that Eddie Vedder is the lead singer; he's the front man, the voice heard by millions of die-hard fans. But when Vedder decided to go solo back in 2007, the world wondered what it would be like. Turns out, Vedder is just as amazing solo as he is with his bandmates. When he released his album, Into the Wild, specifically made for the movie, fans rejoiced, despite reviewers' so-so critiques. Fans shook their heads at critics this time around, as Vedder didn't just do well on his own, he rocked.

In your face, critics!
