The Question Jar Show, the live album by Mike Doughty

Artist:
Mike Doughty

Mike Doughty recorded a show from his 2009 tour “The Question Jar Show”. That recording has recently become a two-disc album of the same name, compliments of Snack Bar/Megaforce Records. With a voice reminiscent of Eddie Vedder, he delivers an energized and heartfelt performance, with the same knack Vedder has for amusing and entertaining his audience. The music consists of an acoustic guitar, a bass, and Doughty's memorable voice. The sound is a blend of country, rock, and a subtle jazz influence, giving a sound not unlike that of Pearl Jam.

'Give My Regards to Broadway' by Dean Regan

Artist:
Dean Regan

Dean Regan’s album Give My Regards to Broadway is filled to the brim with cover versions of Broadway classics from shows like Man of La Mancha and heartwarming ballads that show off Regan’s varied vocal range. If you’re a fan of Broadway, the feel and tone of this album is right up your alley.

Jeremih covers Adele's 'Rumour' in a mashup

Jeremih, known for his single, “Birthday Sex,” released in 2009, stripped down and covered Adele’s song, “Rumour,” off her most recently released album, 21. In an almost spooky way, Jeremih represents the song with the same style as Adele. His voice takes on the same tone which shocked me at first.

'Side-By-Side' concert flops for Weezer and The Flaming Lips

Weezer and the Flaming Lips couldn't make fans happy

How is it that two extremely well known and loved bands can make such a terrible error?

On July 29, the two bands decided that they would play together at Nikon Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. As in, completely share the stage while taking turns singing songs. At first, this doesn't sound like such a bad idea. But after hearing what the audience had to say, I beg to differ.

...Live in Chicago

Artist:
Panic at the Disco

Having not been on the music scene for very long, a live album kind of had me worried for Panic at the Disco. Seeing some of their earlier live performances turned my stomach, so I had very low expectations when it came to this album. Long story short, I was extremely impressed with their work.

Performing a good mix of older and newer songs, the band did a good set for their live album. "/Live in Chicago" is a must hear compilation of Panic's work if you consider yourself a fan.

Greatest Hits Live

Artist:
Emerson, Lake & Palmer

It can be easy to mock progressive rock. With its bloated song lengths, obscure lyrics and labyrinthine soundscapes, the genre is a favorite target for advocates of leaner, meaner styles like punk and alt-rock.

However, it's hard to argue with a live album that demonstrates a highly skilled band's musical mastery and its power on stage that never wears out its welcome. This is presented by Emerson, Lake and Palmer's excellent "Greatest Hits Live," a spectacular live outing, which, despite the title, is anything but a regurgitation of studio tracks in a live setting.

Live from Austin, Texas

Artist:
David Byrne

With David Byrne's newest tour crossing the country, it seems only appropriate to exhume one of the former Talking Heads' frontman's few live albums to see what Byrne has to offer onstage.

"Live from Austin, Texas" was recorded during Byrne's performance at the Austin City Limits music festival in 2001.

Over the Years and Through the Woods

Artist:
Queens of the Stone Age

Queens of the Stone Age front man Josh Homme is a big man. This is indisputable: At six-foot-five, sporting a shock of flame-red hair and with a muscular build, he looks like a cross between post-rehab Trent Reznor and comedian Carrot Top. Homme's dynamic presence and powerful appearance makes him one of modern rock's most formidable personalities onstage or off.

Live at Caramoor

Artist:
Jovino Santos Neto

The grandeur and extravagant tradition pour out of the notes played by Jovino Santos Neto on his live performance album, Live at Caramoor. Jovino, in his masterful way, seduces us as he runs his hands along the spine of the keys in riffs producing rattling shimmers. There's no denying the talent as the songs are longwinded and stretch from the opening note to the closing, demonstrating a sincere love as Jovino plays the piano to perfection.
