'The New Psychodalia' CD Review

Mushroomhead’s front man Jeffrey Nothing, aka Jeff Hatrix, has released his first solo album, The New Psychodalia. Produced under the music label Suburban Noize, this album fits under alternative metal. Nothing provides an hour worth of music with lucky 13 number of tracks.

Mastodon- The Hunter

Artist:
Mastodon

After the release of Crack the Skye in 2009, it appeared that Mastodon were ready to become the new kings of progressive rock. Something strange happened on the way to their next album, though, and what emerged was The Hunter. One look at the track list is sure to confuse fans, as the longest song on the album clocks in at five and a half minutes. The Hunter showcases Mastodon in their most streamlined form, producing an album that is, for the first time in their career, immediately catchy.

The Devin Townsend Project- "Juular" music video

Artist:
The Devin Townsend Project

There really isn't a musician in the world right now, metal or otherwise, that can match Devin Townsend's vision. He has a peculiar sensibility that has made his mark on a project instantly recognizable, from Strapping Young Lad to the Devin Townsend Project. Even through the four albums in four different genres that make up the Project, each song is so specifically his. It should come as no surprise, then, that he has given us this video for “Juular,” the first single off of Deconstruction.

Five Finger Death Punch knocks out a third album

Single, “Under and Over It” debuts upcoming album

I was first turned on to this band by a friend in the summer of 2009. She introduced them to me by showing me the video to one of their hit singles, a ballad called “The Bleeding.” I rewound the video over and over so I could listen to each part individually.

The thing that caught my attention first was the way the two guitarists fed off of each other. I was hooked. I went on to the bass and then the drums.

“Just listen to the lyrics already,” my friend exclaimed.

From Fear to Eternity

Artist:
Iron Maiden

From Fear to Eternity: The Best of 1990-2010 is the latest release by heavy metal pioneers Iron Maiden. It is a compilation of the band’s greatest hits from the last 20 years. It encompasses the early '90s, when the band was going through significant musical changes, as well as the Blaze Bayley era, and the more recent reunion albums with singer Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith.

'Feed The Machine' single

Artist:
Red

Red's latest album Until we have Faces, released in February, is a tantalizing mix of beautiful vocals and screams by Michael, amazing drumming and chord mashing by Joe and the Twins, respectively, and chorale and instrumental backgrounds. The message of their music is subtle but undeniable, and their track "Feed The Machine" is perhaps the most pointed song from the album.

Let Draka / The Flight of the Dragon

Artist:
Drakar
'Experimetal' Czech trolls blow ears off.

Drakar, a Czech Republic born metal outfit who emerged in the late 1980s, are best represented by their now two-decade-old debut album, Let Draka / The Flight of the Dragon, also called Dragon Music of Prague (their current base of operations): Mystic Metal.

The Third Aeon

Artist:
The Black Oath
Italian doom metal rockers release first full legnth album

Milan, Italy is a land saturated with elaborate cemeteries, gothic architecture and eerie monuments. It contains a rich history of mystery, magic, death and folklore. Born and raised in the region, metal trio "The Black Oath" fully embrace this aspect of their hometown and make that clearly visible in their first full length album, The Third Aeon.

The Dead of Night

Artist:
EkoTren

EkoTren has chosen the higher path of hard rock: not to be "total brutal" and have undecipherable lyrics with cookie monster backup vocals. Instead, they attempt (and for the most part succeed) to create an honest album comprised of blue collar riffs and observational lyrics. Let’s talk influences and similarities, shall we? This is the natural progression from something like Ill Nino or Chevelle, bands that don't quite have that hardened edge.

Eyes Set to Kill’s Third Album, 'Broken Frames'

Artist:
Eyes Set to Kill

The Phoenix-based band has set the record straight. Broken Frames is their most heavy and aggressive record to date. Andrew Wade, who produced Eyes Set to Kill’s third album, has pushed the band beyond their comfort capacities and into a more concrete sound that definitely establishes their new recording direction.
