Album review: 'Magickal Nights' by Andreas

Artist:
Andreas
A parallel audio universe

New age musician Louie Andreas has created yet another album that explores the magical, relaxing realm of audio sounds. The new album, Magickal Nights, will draw you into the sleeping universe with one whisper of a flute, one strike of a chime, and one pull of a string.

Andreas, who puts major emphasis on new age themes, makes his music extremely relaxing. It is like I could fall asleep on a cloud that could take me to a parallel universe brimming with fairies and other magical beings. Using soothing sounds of nature, Andreas makes this album truly a pleasure to listen to.

‘Sacred Love’ by Shambhu

Artist:
Shambhu

The debut CD released by Shambhu has been going off the charts ever since it dropped back in October.

This 12-track masterpiece shows what World, New Age, and Ambient music is all about.

He has wonderful guitar skills. All throughout the album his elaborate guitar work can be heard. Not only is he a master on the classical, he is a visionary composer. It is very difficult to distinguish which one of these talents outweighs the other.

Many fans of New Age around the world have already started to enjoy Shambhu’s music and there will be many more fans developed in years to come.

Steven Halpern celebrates 35 years of music with his 75th album release. The new CD, Paradigm Shift, is now available.

The pioneer of healing and relaxation music released his debut album, Chakra Suite, 35 years ago. To celebrate that release, the iconic musician has now dropped his 75th album, Paradigm Shift.

This CD is beyond the most relaxing I have ever heard. Long loops of piano will put any listener in a trance. The highs and the lows of the keyboard he displays really express how beautiful the piano is.

Commencement

Artist:
Deadsy

The lead singer of Deadsy is descended from music. Elijah Blue Allman is the son of Cher and Gregg Allman, and listening to his throaty voice, one can hear hints of both of them. This is where the musical similarities end. I would say that Deadsy is part techno, part metal, part glam rock. The band claims to have created their own genre, called undercore, which is a good description. Certainly one could say that the synth heavy music is part of the '80s revival which is going on.

Voices

Artist:
Yanni

Say the word "Yanni" to anyone of my generation (mid 30s), and you will instantly revoke some sort of visceral reaction, whether positive or negative. But on "Voices," the trademark instrumental Yanni keyboard sound, while present, is combined to good effect with some very adept vocals, which takes this recording to another level.

Olde School

Artist:
The East Village Opera Company

It took 12 months, 14 engineers and perhaps 300 years to make this stunning album, Olde School, for the East Village Opera Company. They used a few centuries worth of opera greats as launching points to jet start tracks that are bumping rock operas. There are a lot of notable, catchy themes you'll be able to identify that are revamped with an aggressive vengeance to make for a series of tracks that is remarkable. Who knew opera could be this cool? The modernized opera tracks translate into a surreal, aural, storybook series of tales that is addicting.

The Lost Dream

Artist:
Jamie Craig

Jamie Craig is one do-it-yourselfer. According to his MySpace page, he composed, arranged, played all the instruments, recorded, mixed and produced all of the music on his album, "The Lost Dream."

Like its title, Craig's album evokes sadness and longing with its instrumental, New Age music that contains strings, saxophone and plenty of bass.
