We Are by Elan Atias

Artist:
Elan Atias

Elan Atias's solo album We Are offers listeners a smooth and uplifting ride, with his silk-and-gravel voice delivering a warm and happy message wrapped in a relaxing melody and a sway-inducing rhythm. Released in October of 2011, the album features the single “Step Into the Sunshine”, a song which landed Atias in the upcoming Swimsuit Issue of Sports Illustrated as one of 17 featured emerging artists. Atias has a wealth of experience in the music industry, having worked with The Wailers, Gwen Stefani, Carlos Santana, and others.

Perry Tole's ‘Flight of the Eagle’

Artist:
Perry Tole

Perry Tole is a talented artist born in 1956 who reigns from Jamaica. His first solo album, titled Flight of the Eagle, was released in November of 2010.

Perry Tole is going to get a lot of notoriety for this one; the album is so well crafted. I guess that makes sense considering he is a songwriter, awesome guitarist, musician, and producer.

This album radiates an amazing vibe as the genres of rock and reggae shine through. This album consists of 15 tracks where the music takes care of most of the sound. The only time you here his voice is on "Intro" and "Outro."

12" Reggae Discomix Showcase Volume 4

Joe Gibbs
'Hey mon'!

Jamaica's Joe Gibbs brings out another great album of the best that Jamaican reggae has to offer. One of the island's most popular and talented producers, Gibbs does it again. He brings the island beat and feel to the mainland.

'Red Pond'

Artist:
Junior Kelly
Raggae album brings the vacation to your speakers.

Listening to Junior Kelly's reggae album Red Pond brought me back to the week I took a cruise to the Bahamas. Sipping a iced drink, laying on the deck chair in the sun, and sailing down to the islands. Ahhhhh. I didn't want the album to end and have to go back to reality.

Man Redemption

Artist:
Jahmings Maccow

Free our minds from mental slavery, says the first line in Jahmings Maccow's track, "Man Redemption," from the new album of the same name. Evoking the classic reggae style, the song calls for awareness and an acknowledgment of society's frailty. All the classic words can be found in this first song, words like happiness, ignorance, unruliness, and of course, redemption.

All Rebel Rockers

Artist:
Michael Franti & Spearhead

Michael Franti moved from band to band before he created Spearhead in 1994. Michael Franti, lyrics and guitar; Cherine Anderson, vocals; Carl Young, bass; Dave Shul, guitar; Manas Itiene, drums; and Raliegh J. Neal, II, form the band. The band usually fuses hip-hop, funk, rock, and reggae. This album has more of a reggae feel to it and it never misses a beat. The album touches on themes of political activism and positive human attitude.

"All Rebel Rockers" is a smooth, steady sounding album.

The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers

Artist:
Bob Marley and the Wailers

The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers is the beginning of what would become a world renown band, spreading reggae music, an unknown style before the '70s, around the globe.

Here, are some of his classic songs stripped down to bare bones. You can hear the reggae sound of staccato guitar shuffles, light drums, and not much more. You can barely call this album electric.

Trevor Hall

Artist:
Trevor Hall

Singer/songwriter Trevor Hall cites Bob Marley and Bob Dylan as two of his biggest influences. There is a dominant reggae tone to his music, but through his flowing vocals he has a classic rock sound as well; a combination that is very reflective on his mentioned inspirations. Trevor Hall's sound reminds me a lot of reggae rapper, Matisyahu. The flow and even the meaning of their music is very similar. Fitting enough in Hall's first single off of his album, "Unity," he collaborates with Matisyahu.

Radiodread

Artist:
Easy Star All-Stars

Radiodread, an album by the Easy Star All-Stars, was a risky proposition. An album of Radiohead covers done in a dub or reggae style risked alienating Radiohead fans who might feel that the covers are bad, and it also risked alienating reggae fans for whom Radiohead was too weird. Also, it was a sophomore album. Had it gone poorly, it may have been the end. Luckily, what they have created is a fantastic reinterpretation of Radiohead's seminal 1995 album, "OK Computer." Although it requires a little manipulation, these reggae covers sound natural.

Uplifter

Artist:
311

After nearly four years since their last record, 311 released their much anticipated ninth studio album, "Uplifter," on Tuesday. Like their past albums, 311 proves again that they are impossible to categorize. "Uplifter" is an eclectic mix of reggae, ska, punk, rock, rap and even pop.

"Uplifter" is an easy listen, just like most of 311's previous albums. It still has the signature 311 vocals, which are smooth, polished and enjoyable. However, some have criticized the new and "lighter" sound that has been infused into this album.
