Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate

Something for everyone

I recently stayed at the newly-opened Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate in Florida and this mint destination truly has something for everyone. At first, I wondered how Orlando could squeeze another hotel into an already-crowded market. Situated only 6.8 miles from Disney, and 25 minutes from the airport, the Omni Orlando is both convenient, yet seemingly tucked away. Only opened since October 10, 2004, it has already attracted a busy business and family clientele.

Space Coast

The Florida Space coast is more than what's out there, it's what's right here. Discover a place where passion for the environment and space exploration thrive side by side.

I suppose this trip to Florida took a turn for the fantastic, when at diner the first night, some people shouted out, "There's going to be an Atlas rocket launch in two minutes!" What a choice: fried calamari or a rocket launch? However, no choice was possible, as the table emptied and I was hustled out to the beach wondering what I had gotten into. Outside there was a group of people who were pointing to a bright light in the distance. The conversation buzzed about payload, afterburners, type of fuel, fuel cells re-entering the atmosphere and on and on and on...

Rosemary Beach

The hardest story one has to write is one where you have nothing to complain about.

Writing about Rosemary Beach, Florida is one of the most difficult assignments that I've ever had to do. Rosemary Beach is so perfect; it worried me that my story would come across as too praising and therefore unbelievable. In addition, since it's such a nice destination to visit, there was little for me to joke about. To further increase the literary pressure, my notes basically seemed to say, "Rode Bike. Ate. Slept. Walked on Beach. Swam. Repeat."

We flew to Pensacola, located on the western end of the Floridian panhandle, just near Alabama.

Panama City Beach

Swimming with dolphins, a relaxing Florida beachfront, tours with the chef and a massage. Who could ask for anything more?

I know I shouldn't complain about my job of writing about different travel destinations, but on this trip to Panama City Beach Florida, I realized the downside to this profession. My husband and I see so many places where we just don't want to leave, and this was one of them. Most of the time, we get a wonderful tour of the area or the facility, and we are lucky to stay a few days. After our tour of the Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach, I knew right away that staying here two nights would be like a tease.

Sanibel Island

A short, but beautiful respite from the cold New York winter can be found in Fort Myers and Sanibel Island, Florida, complete with a seashell heaven and outdoor haven for creatures of all kinds.

The flight began with a duel. As I sat in the middle of the set of three seats with my wife, Margherita, on my left, and a stranger to my right, the Palm Pilot duel began. Margherita took out her Palm Pilot, and the stranger took out an even better one. I was forced to begin my story early by not only whipping out my Palm Pilot, but the keyboard, which is why I started this story here and now. It's a rather large keyboard and folds rather intricately as any good gadget should. To make it even better, it looks extremely complicated and thereby is even more impressive.

Fort Lauderdale

A mad dash through Fort Lauderdale over the weekend, from Polynesian Reviews to Riverboat Cruises.

There are two types of people who seem to go to Fort Lauderdale, those who go on vacation, and those who go for the weekend as if they're just commuting. We were of the first type since we've never been there before and our budget doesn't allow for weekend commutes to Florida too often. Our flight seemed to have both types. Half of the plane was looking forward to a vacation and the other half was looking forward to a party.

We arrived at JetBlue Airways about an hour and a half before we were supposed to depart as per the airline's instructions.

Cirque Du Soleil

The circus gets updated to the 21st century in this review of Cirque Du Soleil.

Cirque Du Soleil advances the traditional concept of the circus with the production qualities of modern day theater. While a traditional circus has animals, lion tamers, side shows and other aspects that make the big top wonderful, Cirque Du Soleil has only acrobats, clowns and other human performers.

Sea World

Sea World is usually known for being a land of waters, but even in the middle of a thunderstorm our reporter has some fun.

Unfortunately, on the day that we planned our day trip to Sea World, it was pouring torrential rain in Orlando, Florida. Coming from strong stock, born and bred in Brooklyn, a little rain was not going to daunt us. Therefore, with ponchos in hand, we were off to Sea World. We even called to make sure that Sea World was open, and they too are unrelenting to the elements. In their parking lot, we ran from our car, thinking we would definitely be the only ones brave or stupid enough to venture out.

Disney World

Our reporter explores Disney World from the perspective of an older generation and finds it's not just for kids.

I do not consider myself a Disney novice, having been there three times already, yet I am certainly not a Disney expert compared to some that I have met. I do admit that I approached our last Disney Adventure with trepidation. I had two fears. First, would we find Disney as much fun as we did the first three times when we took our children, since this time we would be... I dread to say it... childless! Secondly, being now in our fifties, would we still have the necessary," Disney Endurance"?
