Catch Me If You Can - Self Titled
- John Williams' score to Steven Spielberg's latest film
is a throwback to the jazz scores of the composer's
early days. The music perfectly matches the escapades
of con-artist Frank Abagnale. The animated opening
music is a highlight not too far removed from
something sounding similar to Henry Mancini.
"Recollections (The Father's Theme)" is a wonderful
track with a haunting solo saxophone and recommended
listening. This is John Williams doing progressive
jazz not big orchestral Star Wars music. There are
some jazz standards included on the album like Stan
Getz and Frank Sinatra. This is overall a good score
that shows Williams at the top of his craft.
