Angela's Ashes - Self Titled
- An overlooked gem that did manage to get an Academy Award nomination back in 1999. This score by John Williams is one of his best. Williams' style is instantly recognizable and the music demonstrates his talent for writing smaller more intimate scores. The music on the album is gorgeous and quite different than what ended up in the film where the final result had tracks horribly cut by the director Alan Parker. The Lanes of Limerick and the finale track Back to America are both heartbreaking and uplifting at once. Williams pays homage to English composers Britten and Vaughan Williams and is comfortable using his own style that suites the Irish setting of the picture. The only downside of the album is the dialogue excerpts that do cover some of the beautiful instrumental solos.
