Hamlet - Self Titled
- Carter Burwell's score album to the 2000 version of Hamlet is a subdued modern score and definately worth listening to. The music consists of dark colors with an unusual small chamber ensemble providing the perfect underscore for this modern retelling of Shakespeare. This music could even underscore a stage production as Burwell uses a lot of nice low instrumental sounds and long string lines. Some electronics are at a whisper under the dirge-like bassoon accompanied by light touches from the piano (Too Too Solid Flesh). Burwell also uses some nice guitar solos in the score (Darkroom). A solid album all around with a nice mellow sound.
