The Great Escape

Varese Sarabande records has reissued Elmer Bernstein's classic score to the Steve McQueen WWII adventure film "The Great Escape." This soundtrack is one of the best of the genre and Bernstein wrote one of the most recognizable marches in film music (it's even parodied in an episode of the Simpsons!).

The music blends the woodwinds of the jaunty march well with the intense brass of the action and suspense music. The track "Cooler and Mole" is a highlight and the action music toward the end of the album is some of the composer's best. If you love film scores like "The Magnificent Seven" and "Stripes," this is a must have soundtrack.
