Anthony Hamilton - Comin' From Where I'm From
- Due to the quality of music that has recently been recorded and miraculously surfaced mainstream, my faith in good music these days is constantly being tested. Then suddenly there's this artist who has a voice as smooth as pedicured feet, which also stimulates emotion like the great musicians of years past. Ladies and gentleman, Anthony Hamilton has entered the building.
This is the type of album that undoubtedly has lasting ability. From the first song, "Mama Knew Love," Hamilton instantly reaches many far and wide as he serenades you through his recollection of the trials and tribulations his mother endured trying to survive as she raised young Hamilton. He then sends you two-stepping as he harmonizes in "Since I Seen't You" and brings that feeling of nostalgia in "Comin' from Where I'm From." The majority of the album pays tribute to the many phases of love and ones indulgence in the multi-faceted emotion, and this is Hamilton's strong suit. His sincere, warm, and golden voice, along with many songs on this album, can be enjoyed by couples that have been married for half a century, as well as a pair slow-dancing at a high school prom. The tranquil and apologetic "Charlene" is enough to make the ladies fall head over heels for this songbird, while the sensual "Float" will seduce even the most self-contained individual. Hamilton's laid back style and powerful, harmonious voice, set him aside from some of the debris that receives radio and video airplay, and subtly advises the creators of the aforementioned to step up their game before he quietly changes the rules of the game forever.
