Acoustic - John Lennon
- Half of the critics of this newly released John Lennon recording seemed to feel that the tracks were sub-par and not worth listening to except for archival reasons. The other half seemed to feel that this is a genuine acoustic album, along the lines of Unplugged. My assessment is that they’re both right.
Admittedly, even as a big John Lennon fan, some of the tracks here do not sound as good as the bootlegs I used to tape off of the Lost Lennon tapes. For archival purposes, it’s amazing to hear what John was thinking originally, but it’s not something you want to play too often on the radio. On the other hand, there are tracks like "Watching the Wheels", "Working Class Hero", and even "Imagine" that are outstanding.
Overall, the feel is as if it was put together recently, but keep in mind, some of the tracks are of uneven quality. However, if you’re buying this album you’re probably a John Lennon fan already and therefore you’re interested in both the archival quality stuff and the regular tracks.
