Supershine - Supershine
- What do you get when you team up Trouble guitarist Bruce Franklin with King’s X bassist/singer Doug Pinnick? Well, you get the heavy, soulful, retro-rock offering known as Supershine, a rather cool mix of old school metal and blues, with a sprinkling of psychedelia thrown in for good measure.

The CD is loaded with Franklin’s trademark doomy riffs that fans of his former band Trouble have grown to love. And Pinnick really shines (forgive the pun) with his deep bass grooves, sweet chorus hooks and bluesy, melodic singing.

There is a definite 70s feel to the music with the Sabbath-esque riffs, but who’s to say that’s a bad thing? I certainly don’t. I love the thick guitar tone, heavy chunk-a-chunka riffs and ample use of the wah-wah pedal. I especially enjoy the fact that the guitar, though detuned, still sounds like a guitar--a definite thumbs up in my book.

Supershine transcends its influences to come up with a unique style that stands on its own, and which fans of straight on heavy rock will enjoy. Stand out tracks on the CD are the funkadelic grinding on "Going Down"; the radio friendly "Automatic"; and the wonderfully brutal riff on "Kingdom Come." Guitar enthusiasts will revel in the deliciously nasty tone pouring out of Franklin’s amplifiers. This is a definite winner, so pick up a copy as soon as you can.
