Charlie Daniels - Songs from the Longleaf Pine: A Gospel Bluegrass Collection
- Charlie Daniels has gathered a number of noted country artists for this lively gospel bluegrass collection of standards, such as How Great Thou Art. The CD kicks off with a rousing version of Walkin’ in Jerusalem, which includes some nifty instrumental tradeoffs between fiddle, banjo, mandolin and slide guitar. A bit later, Daniels and company do a nice, bluesy rendition of I’m Working on a Building. Bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs plays banjo on the upbeat Keep on the Sunny Side. The Whites drop in for some lovely harmonies on Softly and Tenderly. A guitar solo on I’ll Fly Away is almost worth the price by itself.

Rickey Skaggs, Mac Wiseman and the GrooveGrass Boys also add their talents to the album. The musicianship and harmonies throughout are top notch. Even the recitations of Bible passages such as the 23rd Psalm are effective. Country music fans and bluegrass aficionados should enjoy this album.
