Walkabout - John Barry
- John Barry's score to the 1972 Nicolas Roeg film Walkabout contains one of the most beautiful themes written for a motion picture. The score is one of composer Barry's most artistic and memorable, containing that familar lushness found in such classics as Midnight Cowboy and Out of Africa.
The two main characters of the film are children who must survive after being abondoned in the Australian outback. They are found by an aborigine boy who is able to save them from dying alone in the desolate terrain. The flowing strings in the score are richly accompanied by walking harpsichord chords and low flute solo in the main theme. In The Children, Barry introduces a distant- sounding children's song performed by choir and orchestra for the girl and her younger brother.
This album from Silva America was successfully re-recorded by Nic Raine with the City of Prague Philharmonic and contains a compilation of many other themes from rare unreleased Barry scores. This album is a must have for fans of John Barry.
