Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself
- The passionate, yet soothing voice of Imogen Heap has come out with a second album, "Speak for Yourself." In addition to solo songs and soundtracks, Imogen has put together a 12-track album featuring unique electronic sounds.
After listening to the UK artist for the first time, I thought it was an attempt to soften the techno scene. After listening to the second album, I realized each song grew on me. The final result, for me, is that "Speak for Yourself" is a CD I can listen to over and over again, and instead of playing it out, I enjoy it even more.
The music impressed me because I love strong piano solos, which Imogen uses in most of her tracks. I also admire the lyrics, because they seem to be “stream of consciousness,” as if I could see Imogen laying in bed in the morning writing down the first things that came to mind. Most of the songs are about love, loneliness and finding your way. My favorite song on the CD happens to be the first song she wrote for the album called “Clear the Area,” which is a beautiful mix of deep bass and pretty vocals: “You find your way back down/ and I’ll keep the area clear/ you find your way back down/ and I’ll just be waiting here.”
